The Sea Otter classroom is full of learning, fun, and school readiness.  Our class uses Creative Curriculum, follows a predictable educational Daily Routine, has positive adult-child interactions, as well as a learning environment designed for student success. Teachers also incorporate Everyday Math Curriculum and literacy activities into their weekly lesson planning. Learning focuses on five different areas of development; Social, Emotional, Physical, Cognitive, and Language and are designed to meet the needs of many learning styles.  Every day the children work in both large groups and small groups and go outside to extend their knowledge. At school, children also visit the nature center, have music class, and go to the library. If you have any questions about our classroom’s curriculum, please do not hesitate to ask a teacher. We are so happy to be working with you this year!

I am so excited to be part of the classroom!

My family life-

I live locally and love this community. My husband and I were blessed with our first child, David was born in July 2017. We are staying very busy with a tot at home. I love to garden, exercise, read, and spend time with my family. We used to live in Marquette, MI and enjoy visiting there every chance we can!

My professional experiences-

I have completed my Masters in Cognitive Impairment and Early Childhood. I also graduated from Eastern Michigan University with my bachelors in Speech Pathology/elementary education. I have two years of Montessori experience and nine years of private child care experience. I also enjoyed substitute teaching in Milan schools for two years until I joined PECC. This is my fifth year with the Preschool. I did leave for one year where I lived in Marquette, MI and taught there. My husband and I LOVE the snow!

MMy name is Kelly Straub and I am looking forward to being one of your child's teachers this school year. I have been happily married to my husband Jeff for 18 years. We are the proud parents of an 11 year old son Zackary, who is entering his first year at Milan Middle School in the 6th grade. This will be my 7th school year of teaching at PECC. I have worked in classrooms with all ages in our program. I also have experience teaching Safety Town for the City of Milan in the summer.
