Board Policies

  • The Milan Area Schools Board of Education uses NEOLA to provide assistance with the maintenance of board policies.

Due to frequent changes in the law, various sections of the board policies are reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis. While reasonable attempts are made by NEOLA to keep the policy language current, the web version of these documents may not always be current.

Additionally, parents and community members are strongly encouraged to speak with school officials regarding the policies.

On April 15, 2020, the Milan Area Schools Board of Education passed a resolution that stated:
As permitted by contract and Applicable Law, all Board policies, administrative guidelines, and handbooks that conflict with COVID-19 related public health directives, Executive Orders and Directives, and the District’s Continuity of Learning and COVID-19 Response Plan (“Plan”) are temporarily suspended. The suspension will continue, unless modified or rescinded by Board action, during the pendency of those orders, directives, and Plan, and for a reasonable time thereafter, as permitted by contract and Applicable Law, to permit the District to return to normal operations.

In November of 2013, the Board of Education passed a resolution ending the use of Native American Symbolism in the district.  At that time, they also implemented Logo and Mascot Guidelines for the new districts logo.
