Unit 6 Human Influence on Organism Reproduction

  • The Power Standard for this unit is the Next Generation Science Standard MS LS 4-5 which states that students must be able to gather and synthesize information about the technologies that have changed the way humans influence the inheritance of desired traits in organisms.

The rubric for this standard is as follows:

If your child achieves a level 1, she/he is considered not proficient for this Power Standard.  However, it means that the student can describe genetically modified organisms, genetically engineered chemicals, and gene therapy.

If your child achieves a level 2, she/he is considered partially proficient for this Power Standard.  However, it means that the student can compare and contrast the positive and negative impacts of  genetically modified organisms, genetically engineered chemicals, and gene therapy.

If your child achieves a level 3, she/he is considered proficient for this Power Standard, such that the student can gather and synthesize information about the impacts of genetically modified organisms, genetically engineered chemicals, and gene therapy.

If your child achieves a level 4, she/he is considered advanced for this Power Standard, because the student can argue the merits of genetically modified organisms, genetically engineered chemicals, and gene therapy.
