Unit 5 Reproductive Success

  • The Power Standard for this unit is the Next Generation Science Standard MS LS 1-4 which states that students must be able to use argument based on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning to support an explanation for how characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures affect the probability of successful reproduction of animals and plants respectively.

The rubric for this standard is as follows:

If your child achieves a level 1, she/he is considered not proficient for this Power Standard.  However, it means that the student can select characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures that increase reproductive success.

If your child achieves a level 2, she/he is considered partially proficient for this Power Standard.  However, it means that the student can list characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures that affect the probability of reproductive success.

If your child achieves a level 3, she/he is considered proficient for this Power Standard, such that the student can argue how and why characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures affect the probability of reproductive success.

If your child achieves a level 4, she/he is considered advanced for this Power Standard, because the student can predict which characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures would affect the probability of reproductive success more than others.
