Procedure

  1. Fill the pan half way full with water.
  2. Cover the pan with a sheet of foil.
  3. Secure the foil by tying it down with string or a rubberband.
  4. Set the pan in an area that has open sky above.
  5. Let the pan sit for a while. The longer the pan sits the more micrometeorites collected.
  6. Carefully uncover the pan and gently place the foil to the side without crumpling the foil. Hold the foil up to a light source. Light will shine through the holes made by the micrometeorites.
  7. Slowly sweep a magnet through the water along the bottom of the pan to collect your meteorites. The magnetic meteorites will stick to the magnet.
  8. Try viewing the micrometeorites with a microscope or a magnifying glass.
